Our Mission is to create positive impact by hosting world-class sporting events that enhance vibrancy in the community, build civic pride, drive economic impact and media exposure, and encourage opportunities for youth.
Geared For Health collects and distributes donated sports equipment to help underserved local young athletes jumpstart a more active lifestyle while encouraging a commitment to good health. The program collects new and gently-used donated sports equipment from manufacturers, retailers, institutions, events and individuals, and distributes it to not-for-profit, youth-serving organizations, sports leagues and sports clubs. Indiana Sports Corp was founded in 1979 as the nation’s first sports commission. Our events are broadcast around the world and bring national and international attention to the area (Geared For Health started in 2007).
Impacting youth through sport is part of our mission statement and in 2014 we impacted 118,000 youth through our programs from Big Ten Football, Big Ten Basketball to NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Youth are able to have an experience they wouldn’t otherwise have had. Youth that play sports learn leadership, communication and teamwork among other things. We look forward to impacting more youth in 2015.
How can you help put sports equipment in the hands of needy kids statewide? Please consider a collection through your business, neighborhood association, church or other organization. Donate new or gently-used items to Geared For Health (volleyballs, soccer balls, cleats, jump ropes, promotion items from your business) at Play It Again Sports in Carmel or Fishers. If you have a large donation, please contact Molly Powell.
We also always need volunteers, whether that is a veteran volunteer who takes pride in Indianapolis and exceeds all expectations just like the city itself, or a new volunteer with new ideas and energy, we are searching for those who will make our guests remember their unique experience in Indianapolis. Visit our website to get involved as a volunteer!
